JAS KING

Jas — or Dr. Jasmir King, as his diploma would have it — is a gifted research mentor who helps Brand U students find and pursue questions worth asking. He guides them through the full arc of independent research: formulating a question, designing a study, analyzing data, and presenting findings. His particular gift is helping students uncover research questions that are both intellectually rigorous and personally meaningful, pushing them past the boundaries of a typical classroom project into real depth of thinking. He's especially drawn to fusion projects that bring scientific inquiry into spaces not typically thought of as scientific, helping students find the empirical question hiding inside a passion for music, art, sports, or the design of human experience.

That instinct for mentorship is grounded in a career built on the same rigor he now teaches. Jas's path to biomedical engineering began in San Antonio, Texas, and later Opelousas, Louisiana, where a childhood fascination with the human body sparked a long-term goal that would define his career: 3D-printing a fully functional heart to help address the global shortage of transplantable organs. That goal carried him to UC Berkeley, where he earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering and was awarded both the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and the Chancellor's Fellowship in recognition of his research potential. From there, he joined United Therapeutics, where he worked on a 3D-printed organ platform before pivoting into clinical and regulatory work to move closer to the patients his research had always been meant to serve. He is now a Clinical Scientist at Noctrix Health, working across Clinical and Regulatory Affairs to expand patient access to a wearable electrical stimulation device for Restless Legs Syndrome — the only non-drug wearable therapy of its kind.

Across all of his work, Jas brings technical depth, adaptability, and a commitment to translating scientific innovation into real-world impact. That same perspective shapes how he mentors students, helping them align their interests with meaningful opportunities and build research paths with genuine purpose. Outside of work, Jas enjoys strength training, playing basketball, and traveling, believing that health and curiosity are just as valuable beyond the laboratory as it is within it.
